01 / The crossbeam
The piece that holds the whole together.
Before there is motion, there is structure. A crossbeam spans between supports, binds separate sides into one frame and carries the forces placed upon it.
● Coming soon
Crossbeam A transverse member connecting and supporting the structure around it.
02 / The name
Why “Transtra”
From a structure that holds a vessel together to a structure that holds a project together.
Transtrum is one Latin crossbeam or rowing thwart; transtra is the plural. The crossbeam becomes a supported task span across time and joins a schedule’s critical path at a milestone.
transtrum singular Transtra plural, Latin — crossbeams; rowing thwarts.
Latin writers used transtra for transverse timbers and for the rowing thwarts on which a vessel’s crew worked. One element could therefore be structural and human at once: part of the frame, and the place from which effort was applied.
That dual meaning is the idea behind our name. The historical term is the starting point; the comparison with modern project planning is ours.
Spans across time. Crew pulling together. A structure that holds.
03 / The crew
A span. A seat. A shared rhythm.
As a thwart, it gives each rower a defined place from which to work.
Repeated positions create a crew whose effort can be applied in time.
Structure and rhythm turn many individual pulls into forward motion.
04 / The project
Projects move the same way.
A task is a span across time: it has a start, an end and support from the work around it. Dependencies connect those spans. Ownership gives people their place. Sequence lets separate contributions become one coordinated plan.
05 / What we’re building
A shared structure for shared work.
Transtra is a professional planning workspace built for work as it is done today—collaborative, cross-platform and browser-native. Plans stay live, visible and connected wherever the work is happening.
The Gantt chart, critical path and dependency network remain the structural ideas that make planning work. Transtra brings them into one shared environment for the people shaping and delivering the plan.
